I have been back home for 2 months now. A society system based on the principle of individual rights are sprouting everywhere at every corner of Malaysia. Properly known as capitalism. Or better yet, a society system based on the principle of rich individuals who have money to buy their rights. Doesn't that sounds familiar to you?
Turn left you see capitalists with a pocket full of money for investments and sales. Turn right you see constructions and pollution. There is no breather nor room for environmental or political activists to set their feet here. My political science degree in Malaysia is practically useless. My communications degree is still worth a lil more than the political science certificate as having a communications degree in Malaysia means all you can do are: (1) sales (2) sales and (3) sales or public relations. How pathetic, was my first reaction. I begin to wonder where is my rights as a Malaysian here? I have absolutely no rights to utilize my brain cells nor my passion to improvise the condition of my country thanks to the phenomena mentioned.
August 31st, Malaysia's independence is around the corner. Am I happy? Am I celebrating? Should I be celebrating? I see no reason why I should not celebrate. I also see no reasons why I should celebrate. I celebrate because this country is still better than countries that are currently on war right now. I do not celebrate because the case of brain drain for many science and arts fields are increasing. I do not celebrate as what the government has promised the people here is still not fulfilled yet. Freedom of speech is still denied for Malaysians, especially for those who wants and speaks the truth. Freedom to practice political rights are still infringed and shut down.
I am going to sign a contract with a Japanese educational institution later. Breaking my entry level status subsequently activating my brain cells and increasing some income for my pocket. Being an administrative assistant to begin with is not all shameful and to be looked down upon. I promised myself I will strive to be the best entry level clerk one can see. Till then.
